MY FIVE MISTAKES AS A PARENT !

Parents tend to give their best to their child. They want to be perfect but the fact is that there is nothing perfect in this world.

Every parent does lot of right things as well as commits mistakes.

It’s better to learn from other’s mistakes rather than making the same mistakes ourselves.
I did a few mistakes in this journey called Parenting. Hope you wouldn’t repeat the same.

5. Not Being Consistent: My son was excited about skating so I made him join it. Soon his excitement fissed off and he started getting bored of it. I hopped to karate, football and tennis according to with my son’s interest level. Whereas, my family friends made sure that their twin sons pursue skating even if it required a bit of pushing and motivation. They did so every day, month on month. Result: both the kids have been winning national medals from the last few years.

Remember: Consistency Brings Excellence.

4. Being Over Protective: I enrolled my son for swimming classes. However he was afraid of swimming and I gave up to his demands as somewhere even I was afraid from within. In the hindsight, I should have overcome my fear as to know how to swim is important. The result is that my son still doesn’t know how to swim.

Remember: Life skills like Swimming Should Be Taught From An Early Age. Kids Don’t Have Any Inhibitions at that time.

3. Not Conversing in English: With both parents from convent background and with a good spoken English, it should have come naturally to me. Lack of consistency saw few spurts of English Speaking at home followed by back to Hindi. Fortunately, my son can speak English pretty well but it could have been far better had I been more disciplined. I have observed a friend of mine talking to his kids mostly in English, and it a pleasure to see them speak the language fluently. Language speaking comes only with practice.

Remember: One of the Parent Should Make Conscious Effort to Speak in English Regularly.

2. With both parents working and no culture of professionally managed day-care at that time (2006-2010), we had decided to leave our kid with a nanny at home. Though she was known to us and was with us for years but there is a limit to the learning a child will have when with nanny. My wife quit her job to work on life skills of my son. We could see a remarkable improvement in his social skills, motor skills and emotional skills after that. With day-cares coming up, it is a real boon for working parents. The kids are learning every day and interaction with peers make them learn a lot. At our Niño & Niña day-care, there is a kid who joined at the age of 14 months and became an independent eater by 20 months. Further, kids are supervised by a highly qualified day-care incharge rather than being left at the understanding of nanny who will think that doing every task for the kid is being caring.

Remember : It is thousand times better to put your kid in a day-care than to leave him at home with a maid.

1. Whenever I used to scold my kid or whenever I wanted to discipline him, I used to feel guilty from inside. Though I knew that whatever I am doing is necessary, still the guilt creeped up. One such moment used to overshadow hundreds of my sacrifices. Slowly I have been able to convince myself that whatever I did was to make sure that my kid becomes a better human being in future.

Remember: Never have the guilt of being stern creep inside you or haunt you. You are doing it for the betterment of your child.

Hopefully, my experience will make you help a bit.

Apart from these mistakes, I have been doing many right things as well as a parent. Would be following this blog with another one featuring ten things I did right as a parent.

Given the lazy writer I am, hope to share those with you in this century 🙂

This one really resonated with me, especially the last point! ❤️ As Prisha’s mom, I find myself scolding her almost every day and then feeling guilty about it almost immediately. 😅 But at the end of the day, I remind myself — if not me, then who? If I don’t teach her what’s right and wrong, who will? Parenting is such a constant balance between being gentle and being firm, and honestly, the guilt never completely goes away. We’re all just trying our best to raise happy, kind and responsible little humans. ❤️ So yes, this was truly relatable!

A big thank you for showing me a direction, for sharing your parenting experience, and most importantly, for helping me find answers to those questions within me that I always wanted to ask but never really knew how to put into words.

Sometimes, all we need is someone to show us the way when we are lost in our own thoughts. Because a little guidance at the right time can make a world of difference ❤️

I’ll patiently wait for those right points… even if it takes till the next century! 🤣
But now that you’ve announced it, I’m definitely holding you accountable! 😜

This was so relatable! Parenting is all about finding the balance between being gentle and being firm. We may sometimes feel guilty after correcting our children, but ultimately, we’re just trying our best to guide them and raise them into kind and responsible individuals.
