We are not just here to teach but to learn also. I often think that I am shaping them but the fact is they are moulding me day by day and helping me in becoming more softer and kinder.

This invisible string between me and my kids makes even the longest day worthwhile. Our relationship is not just built up on the Lesson Plan, but the small gaps between class activities. This happiness and their love for me is just mine, that one thing I am not going to share with anyone.

To them, I am not just an “educator.” I am their safe space, their cheerleader, and sometimes, their favourite person to share a secret with. In return, they are my mirror. When I am patient, they show me kindness. They don’t see my mistakes or my stresses they only see “Ma’am,” the person who loves them.

I have been an educator for the past two years, and I am truly enjoying my work and the company of my cute little souls. As an educator, it is obviously my responsibility to teach them, guide them and always be there for them. However, over time, I have realised that while we teach children many things, there is also so much that we learn from them.

There have been many moments in my classroom where my children have taught me the most beautiful life lessons. As this session comes to an end, my heart sincerely wants to say thank you to these little souls.

I would like to share one special incident from the educator exchange activity, where educators take another class for 20- 30 minutes. It was a new experience for me as well. What surprised me the most was how my class kids reacted to my absence, even for such a short time. As soon as I returned to my classroom, one child came running to me and said, “Ma’am, I missed you.” Similarly other kids came and said the same. That one sentence completely made my day. She hugged me for a few seconds, and in that moment, I realised how important it is to let people know that they are missed. Many times, we feel it but forget to express it. Our parents, friends, or loved ones might be waiting to hear these simple words. Making someone realise that their presence matters is one of the most beautiful things we can do. This is the bond I share with my kids.

Living in the moment is another important lesson I have learnt from my kids. This is something we often forget because of our busy lifestyles. Whoever is reading this, please pause for a moment and ask yourself—are you truly enjoying the present moment or are you already thinking about the next half hour of your life?
Saying this is easy, I understand, but don’t you think it is important too?

The love and care my kids show for me is truly a blessing. I remember that during a recap session in my class, I suddenly got hurt and said, “ouch.” I wasn’t feeling well, so I sat on the chair for a few seconds. Immediately, my kids came to me and asked, “Ma’am, what happened? Are you okay?” “Ma’am please tell me”.
This may seem like a basic gesture, but what makes it special is that there is no greed or expectation behind it—just pure concern and care.

I also remember one incident from my birthday. The kids were playing with blocks and made a cute pretend play cake out of it for me. They are just four years old, yet they understood that it was my special day and wanted to make me feel special. They didn’t do this because it was their duty but because they genuinely wanted to.

I truly lived my year with them. I would say that if you really want to grow emotionally, please spend some time with kids. They are the best teachers I—or anyone—could ever have.

These little moments remind me every day why I love being an educator and how much children can—teach us—not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually too.

As a Niño & Niña teacher, I can truly say that the bond I share with my kids is filled with love, trust and genuine care. It is not just a profession for me, it is my passion. Every day, I walk into my classroom not only to teach, but to connect, to nurture and to grow alongside them.

The relationship I share with my kids is something I deeply cherish, a lovely bond built on laughter, understanding and unconditional love.
And for that, I am forever grateful.
There is a specific kind of magic in the bond between a teacher and their “little humans.”

-Jyoti

Early Childhood Educator

There is a rhythm between a teacher and their child’s relationship.
