That’s why we proudly call ourselves a diaper-free school. And no, that’s not just a bold statement, it’s a beautiful journey we walk hand-in-hand with our children and their parents.

Now, we know the idea of weaning off the diaper can send chills down a parent’s spine—visions of accidents, piles of laundry, and awkward mall meltdowns. But trust us when we say: it’s all worth it. And more importantly, it’s possible, when done with love, patience and consistency.

So why are we so passionate about ditching the diaper?

When a child begins to recognize their own body cues and takes responsibility, even in the tiniest way, they begin to take pride in their achievements. It boosts self-esteem, strengthens routines and allows smoother integration into structured environments, like formal schools.

Here’s how we do it the Niño & Niña way:

1. Child-Friendly Toilets That Don’t Intimidate

Our washrooms are designed keeping our little learners in mind. Low-height child-friendly commodes, easy flush systems and cheerful spaces ensure that the bathroom doesn’t feel like a scary cave but rather a space they can navigate with comfort and ease.

2. Washroom Breaks on a Clock

We don’t wait for accidents, we prevent them! Children are taken to the washroom at regular intervals throughout the day, especially after meals, snacks and playtime. These routines help create familiarity and gradually train the body and mind to sync up.

3. Encouragement for Every Drop

Whether it’s a successful attempt or just a sit-and-try, we clap, cheer and encourage. Because sometimes, all it takes is a little “Yay, you did it!” to make them want to try again. Children thrive on appreciation, and in our classrooms, no effort goes unnoticed.

4. Conversations with Parents—A Two-Way Street

We constantly communicate with parents to reinforce the idea of diaper-free routines at home too. One of the biggest setbacks we see is when a child is diaper-free at school but made to wear one at home “just to avoid a mess.” This confuses the child, disrupts consistency, and delays the training. Toilet training is a team effort, and we make sure parents feel supported—not pressured—throughout.

5. Celebrating the Accidents Too !

Yes, you read that right. Because accidents mean they are trying. No shaming, no scolding, just gentle clean-ups and reminders. We keep it light and loving and slowly but surely, success follows.

Toilet training isn’t just about dry pants, it’s about teaching responsibility, building trust and celebrating milestones.

At Niño & Niña, we don’t just train children, we empower them. So here’s to saying goodbye to diapers and hello to growing up, the happy and healthy way!

-Divya Joshi

Co-founder, Niño & Niña Preschool n Daycare

At Niño & Niña Preschool, we believe that toilet training is not just about teaching a child to use the washroom, it’s about building confidence, independence, and trust between a child and their caregivers.
